Since the beginning of February, the Student Health Center has experienced an increase in the number of patients with influenza-like illness (ILI). ILI is defined as a flu-like illness but with a negative flu test. Positive flu test results are also beginning to increase, but the Student Health Center has seen only a modest rise in positive results so far.
The Student Health Center has been notified that some local walk-in clinics and Emergency Rooms are also seeing an increase in patient volume with ILI and flu.
Students with ILI/flu are encouraged to remain home from work or school until their cough has resolved and they have been without a fever (Temp >100.3F) without the use of a fever-reducing agent for at least 24 hours. Class and work excuses are provided by the Student Health Center if needed, and appropriate treatment measures are implemented as clinically indicated. Appropriate hand hygiene and cough etiquette are encouraged. Patients presenting to the Student Health Center are asked to wear a protective face mask if they have a cough or fever. Masks are available for other students to utilize for additional protection if desired.
