The Student Health Center provides non-emergent, outpatient medical care for all currently enrolled, eligible students who have paid the Health Fee portion of the Student Programs and Services Fee. Patients are seen by appointment. Students have the option to schedule a same day appointment by calling a Triage Nurse at 865-974-5080 or book a later appointment by contacting the Appointment Desk at 865-974-3648 or using the Student Health Portal.
Booking a Same Day Appointment
A number of same day evaluation times are available each day at the Health Center. Sixty percent of all daily appointments are available for same day scheduling. Same day appointments may only be scheduled by contact with a Triage Nurse.
Two full-time registered nurses serve as the center’s Triage Nurses and provide direct contact with patients who are seeking medical advice and/or a same day appointment at the Student Health Center. These appointments are held between 8 am – 4 pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and from 9 am – 4 pm on Wednesday.
To contact a Triage Nurse, please call (865) 974-5080. Patients are encouraged to call early to secure an appointment. Once the ACC is full and no other appointments are available at the Health Center for same day care, the center’s staff will assist patients in obtaining a subsequent appointment or direct patients to other local health care resources if needed.
Patients without a scheduled SHC appointment, who are concerned they need to be seen for a health issue on the same day, may contact the Telephone Triage Nurse at (865) 974-5080 or present to the SHC Drop-in Triage Nurse office. Drop-in patients are not guaranteed a same day appointment with a provider, but the Drop-in Triage Nurse will work with students to coordinate the best option for their care. Patients arriving early are more likely to secure a same day appointment
Booking a Later Appointment
The Appointment Desk and Student Health Portal should be used to book appointments for a later date. Patients may speak with an Appointment Clerk to book a later appointment at 865-974-3648. The portal allows patients to directly schedule non-emergent, advanced appointments online.
The portal should not be used for students who feel they need more immediate care.
