By the Numbers: RA Programs

by Kiera Przygoda, graphics by Noah Redmond

Every school year, our resident assistants put on community building programs within the residence halls to collaborate and bond with the residents of the hall. RA’s are required to set up two programs every month, but many of them collaborate to put on building wide programs. Some of the different programs that were put on this year by residence assistants were ice cream socials, cookouts, and video games programs. These programs are used as community builders to create a sense of community amongst specific floors or the entire residence hall community.

Hall Director in Stokely Hall, Hannah Johnson, spoke about the goals of these programs as “a fun way to get to know other residents by feeling connected and encouraged by their community by creating a neighborhood feel.”

Take a look at these fun facts from the resident assistant programs from this past academic year:

Number of total programs in 2018-2019 put on by resident assistants within the 12 residence halls on campus

Number of programs with collaboration from other office partners such as UT Recycling, UTPD, the Center for Health Education and Wellness, the Center for Career Development, and the Health Center

Number of programs that provided service opportunities to the residents

Number of programs that had diversity, inclusion, and/or civility as a topic
