During winter break, you may be away from campus, but Rocky Top is still open and eagerly awaiting your return. Outside of official administrative holidays and closings, many student support services offered by the university are still available throughout December and January. Here’s a roundup of what’s open on campus:
Student Counseling Center
The Student Counseling Center is offering remote sessions and Therapy Assistance Online during the break. Being home over break can be unexpectedly difficult, especially for first-year students. Know that you are not alone. There may be new expectations to negotiate and new roles and attitudes. That’s OK! Stay connected with friends and don’t be afraid to reach out for extra support if you need it.
Student Health Center
Hours for the Student Health Center are as follows until January 15:
- Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Wednesday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Saturday and Sunday: Closed.
The Telephone Triage Nurse will remain available 24/7 at 865-974-5080. After-hours care, including holidays, weekends, and days when the university is administratively closed, will remain available through UT Medical Center ER. You can also take advantage of telemedicine services through the Student Health Center if you qualify for student health services.
If you need to self-isolate for a positive COVID-19 test or for other reasons over the holiday break, please complete the self-isolation form. Your assistance will help the university maintain accurate data on the effects of COVID-19. Learn more about when to self-isolate.
All RecSports facilities including the TRECS, Student Aquatics Center, and Vol Wall Climbing Gym will be closed from Saturday, December 19, through Sunday, December 27. Facilities will reopen with a modified schedule and stay on that schedule until January 15. There will also be fitness classes over Zoom from January 4 through 13. Visit RecSports’s website for details.
Over the winter break, access to University Libraries buildings will be restricted to library faculty and staff. Libraries staff will still be available to assist with research needs and provide hold-for-pickup and scan-on-demand services, except for university holidays. Hodges, DeVine, and Pendergrass libraries will reopen to the public and resume their normal hours for the spring semester beginning January 4, 2021.
Winter break hours for UT’s various dining locations are limited, but there are still options at Chick-fil-a in the Student Union, Which Wich and Bentos at Arena Dining, and select POD markets. See the schedule and email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 865-974-4111 with any questions.
Big Orange Pantry
Big Orange Pantry is operating by private appointment only. Students, faculty, and staff can place orders online. A Big Orange Pantry staff member will respond with pickup times and additional information. Direct any questions to email@example.com. Regular pantry hours will resume Wednesday, January 20.
The T (Transit)
The T Bus schedule will have limited operations through December and January. Check UT Parking and Transit’s website for the latest route information.
Please note the university will be closed for the winter holiday from December 21 through December 25, as well as Friday, January 1. Remember, if you need to come to campus during the holiday break, complete the daily health self-screening, which is available at selfscreen.utk.edu or through the Tennessee app. Enjoy winter break and we’ll see you in January!
