An overview of Ayres Hall and the new Student Union as snow covers campus

What’s Open on Campus?

You may be away from campus during winter break, but Rocky Top is still open and eagerly awaiting your return. Outside of official administrative holidays and closings, many student support services offered by the university are still available throughout December and January. Here’s a roundup of what’s open on campus.

Student Union

December hours for the Student Union will be Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and closed on Saturdays and Sundays. The Student Union will be closed from December 22–January 1.

Starting on January 2, the union will be open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Hours may change so be sure to check their website for updates.

Student Counseling Center

The Student Counseling Center will be closed from December 22 to January 1. The center will reopen at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, January 2, and resume its regular business hours Mondays through Fridays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Being home over break can be unexpectedly difficult, especially for first-year students. Know that you are not alone. There may be new expectations to negotiate and new roles and attitudes. That’s OK! Stay connected with friends and don’t be afraid to reach out for extra support if you need it.

Student Health Center

Hours for the Student Health Center are as follows:

  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Wednesday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday: Closed
  • December 22 through January 1: Closed

The Telephone Triage Nurse will remain available 24/7 at 865-974-5080. After-hours care, including holidays, weekends, and days when the university is administratively closed, will remain available through UT Medical Center’s ER.

RecSports

TRECS and the Student Aquatic Center are open on a modified schedule from December 16 to January 1. All other RecSports Facilities will be closed during this time.

All facilities will be closed from December 22, through January 1.

TRECS and SAC will begin Winter Mini-Term Hours on January 2.

University Libraries

Over winter break, University Libraries will remain open on a modified schedule. All libraries will be closed during the university’s winter holiday from December 22 through January 1. Libraries staff will still be available to assist with research needs and provide hold-for-pickup and scan-on-demand services, except for university holidays.

Big Orange Pantry

The Big Orange Pantry is open and will operate on a special schedule from December 8–December 21:

Monday-Friday: 11 a.m.- 3 p.m.

The pantry will be closed from December 22 – January 1 and will reopen on January 2.

The T (Transit)
