MGC Membership Requirements

  • First-year students must be enrolled full-time.
    • Students in the Volunteer Bridge Program are NOT eligible to join a sorority or fraternity
  • Second-semester first-year students, transfer students, and upper-class students must:
    • Have a 2.5 cumulative GPA
    • Have completed at least 12 credit hours at UT
  • Be in good conduct standing with the university

“The primary purpose of the MGC is to unite its member organizations in order to share ideas and resources, promote mutual respect and equality, provide a support network for involved students, and collectively accomplish goals set forth by the council members,” according to the MGC website.

The NPHC initiates potential new members through a formal Membership Intake Process (MIP) known as “intake”. This is their chance to get to know more about each organization to pursue their membership.

“All of these organizations live by the values of culture, academic achievement, diversity, community service, leadership, and lifetime brotherhood and sisterhood,” according to the NPHC website.

NPHC Membership Requirements

Undergraduate students who wish to affiliate with an NPHC organization must meet specific membership qualifications:

  • Be enrolled full-time at UT Knoxville
  • 12 UTK Credit Hours Established
  • 2.5 Cumulative GPA

Both the MGC and the NPHC hold recruitment for new members at the beginning of the fall and spring terms. The recruitment week for MGC consists of an informal week of various activities to get to know the members of each organization, and for them to get to know the interested new members.
