Job Requirements/Qualifications:
Managing Events and Programs
- Plan, manage, and implement educational and cultural events such as American Cultural Experience trips, World Showcase, Coffeehouse, etc.
- Responsibilities include planning logistics, budgeting, advertising, and facilitating activities.
- Work collaboratively with Assistant Director and other Graduate Assistants on large scale annual event planning and implementation, such as International Festival, Dance Competition, and speakers, performers, etc.
- Advise student organizations on program planning and budgeting
Supervision - Assist in collaboratively supervising 10-12 student assistants and directly supervising 3 – 4 student assistants.
- Assist with recruitment, selection, and training of student assistant staff and UT Guide staff.
Orientation
- Assist with planning and implementing international student orientation programs and events. (Both fall and spring semesters)
- Research best practices regarding international student transitions and acculturation to better inform the orientation planning and implementation
Facilities Management
- Assist professional staff with facility daily operations such as room reservations, room setups, and equipment use
- Supervise student assistants and ensure proper opening/closing and front desk procedures are followed
Communication
- Assist with managing International House communication strategies
- Responsibilities include website updates, managing social media accounts, creating print and digital marketing materials, etc.
Intercultural Communication
- Responsibilities include website updates, managing social media accounts, creating print and digital marketing materials, etc.
- Provide support to the Director and Assistant Director in designing intercultural co-curricular experiences that support international education
- Assist in the development of an intercultural communication workshop to implement to campus constituents
- Other duties as assigned
Responsibilities and Tasks:
The International House is hiring Graduate Assistants(s) to begin work during July 2021. Applicants should have experience/interest in the following: developing and implementing programs, supervising student employees, working with budgets, and managing projects (such as social media, language practice, etc). Graduate Assistants keep the International House functioning on a daily basis. They not only help manage the facility 5 days a week but they also serve as hosts to students from all over the world who come to the University of Tennessee. - Interest in working with international students and developing international/cultural programming for the campus community
- Ability to interact with individuals from different cultural perspectives
- Self-motivated and able to work collaboratively
- Experience with program planning for small and large events
- Proficiency with MS Office and ability to use social media
- Excellent organizational skills, including attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work closely with faculty and staff in a professional manner
- The following qualifications are preferred but not required:
- Experience with international cultures
- Experience with orientation programming
Salary/Benefits:
- Tuition Waiver (9 hours each semester including summer)
- Monthly stipend of $1,275
- Health Insurance
Term:
- 20 hours a week for 12 months. Flexibility can be provided for summer internships
