The Student Union has been open for almost a month, and it is already a campus favorite for students, faculty, and staff at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville! Students can be found studying in-between classes and enjoying a meal from Rising Roll or Steak n’ Shake. Campus events have been a success in the new beautiful ballroom. Student Life offices have moved in and opened their doors to all.
So, the new Student Union is really cool, but what are the numbers behind the new living room on campus?
Building Square Feet
The Student Union is a massive 395, 088 square feet of orange pride and Volunteer spirit. If you convert that to acres, the Student Union is a whopping 9 acres!
Ballroom
The ballroom looks enormous, and it comes in at 11,564 square feet. Plenty of room to host an event with AV, catering, and entertainment!
Auditorium
If you can believe it, the new auditorium is bigger than Cox Auditorium in Alumni Memorial Building! It can hold 997 Volunteers for performances, lectures, or special events.
Torch
There are 319 individually fire-blown glass flames in the Torch installation. Check out this video about the beautiful torch installation in the new Student Union.
Resources
There are 11 different offices, centers, and resources now found in the Student Union, including the Dean of Students Office, Center for Student Engagement, Sorority & Fraternity Life, Center for Leadership & Service, SGA, Career Development, Undergraduate Admissions, VolShop, TechShop, UCopy, a box office, information desk, and much more. To say that the Student Union is a one-stop shop is an understatement!
Dining
The entire Student Union now boasts 8 dining locations, including Rising Roll and Steak n’ Shake, as well as a P.O.D. Market. We are getting hungry just thinking about the options!
If you haven’t stopped by the Student Union yet to check out, you definitely need add it to your to-do list A.S.A.P. and take advantage for all it has to offer. While we are talking about to-do lists, don’t forget to note that March 29 is the grand opening ceremony!
