Be a Part of a Team with RecSports

If you’ve been looking to jumpstart, continue a fitness journey, and find your community, you have to check out RecSports! RecSports has several programs for you to get involved in including fitness classes, aquatics, intramurals, outdoor pursuits, and sports clubs.

Intramural Sports

Wiffleball, football, cornhole, and ultimate frisbee are just a few of the many different intramural sports available through the UT Intramural Sports program. Annually, the program offers a wide range of team, dual, and individual activities aimed at maximizing student participation. All UT undergraduate and graduate students who are currently enrolled and have paid their activity fees are eligible for intramural activities.

Group Fitness Class

If you love fitness classes, you have to take a look at the classes offered at TRECS. Maybe you have a few friends who you want to work out with, or maybe you’re looking to find new fitness friends. Either way, head to one, or a few, RecSports fitness classes and find your fitness community! Between barre, Killer Core, ZUMBA, and more, there are plenty of different classes offered to help you on your fitness journey.Students practice yoga in Circle Park

There are group classes offered every weekday and some are offered in person and via Zoom! All group fitness classes are free to UT students who have paid their student activities fees, and all faculty/staff who have paid membership fees to RecSports. Classes are on a “first-come, first-serve” basis until the class maximum is reached. Here’s the full list of group fitness classes.

Outdoor Pursuits

If you’re looking to take fitness to the great outdoors, East Tennessee and RecSports has you covered. Between the mountains, river, quarries, and bike paths, UT Outdoor Pursuits wants to help you discover your next adventure. You can rent equipment such as kayaks, backpacks, sleeping bags, mountain and road bikes, coolers, stoves, and more.

You can also prepare for your next climbing adventure by taking on the Vol Wall!

Located in the HPER Building in Room 202B, the climbing wall features 6,000 square feet of climbing space split evenly between bouldering and rope climbing (lead and top rope). All levels of climbers are welcome. Many climbers have no prior climbing experience.

Student Aquatic Center

The Student Aquatic Center provides a full range of resources for both advanced and beginning swimmers. The facility features two Olympic-size swimming pools. The indoor pool includes a separate diving well with four 1-meter and 3-meter springboards and a 10-meter platform. The outdoor pool features five, 7.5- and 10-meter platforms as well as two 1-meter and two 3-meter springboards. The pools are heated and available for the use of students, faculty, staff, and guests.
