If you’re looking to get involved during your time at UT and want to flex your journalism skills, be sure to check out Student Media! Within Student Media, there are several different ways to get involved. Student Media encompasses different departments that range from The Daily Beacon, Phoenix literary magazine, the advertising department, and the Lumos video team. All these departments work both independently and collaboratively to create news, advertising, and media content.

Student Media offers leadership opportunities to students, from learning how to work with deadlines, manage advertising clients, and work with their peers. Students have walked across the graduation stage looking back on their student media experience with pride.

The Daily Beacon

Two students interview Chancellor Donde Plowman in her officeThe Daily Beacon is the campus newspaper serving the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, campus, and the surrounding community. The paper is editorially independent and is entirely student-written, produced, and managed.

The newspaper has also won several awards such as the Mark of Excellence Award from the Society of Professional Journalists as well as several journalism awards, including awards from the Associated Press and Southeastern Journalism Conference Awards.

Phoenix Literary Magazine

The PhoenixStudents reading the Phoenix Literary Magazine is a student-run campus publication dedicated to the artistic expression of students, faculty, and alumni and is published each semester during the school year. Celebrating over 60 years, the magazine is known as a home for student artistry at the University of Tennessee Knoxville. The Phoenix staff has always sought to provide students with a platform to speak truth to power and share their own stories through art.

The magazine encourages and maintains a rising level of literacy and artistic creativity at the university, and gives a voice to all schools of thought in literature and the arts in the campus community.

Honey Magazine

HoneyHoney Magazine logo graphic is a print magazine, website, and digital brand. The magazine is a female-led and operated digital-first brand that has strived to become a collective feminist voice for the UT campus and Knoxville community. The mission is to promote the young women of campus and Knoxville communities by providing real, relatable content. The team is made of girls from across the university that have a variety of interests, come from an array of backgrounds and have infinite ambition.
