The Division of Student Life has reimagined student support by launching the Center for Basic Needs and the Center for Student Advocacy.

“We are excited to add the Center for Basic Needs and the Center for Student Advocacy to Student Life,” says Vice Chancellor Frank Cuevas. “Both centers position Student Life to proactively address evolving student needs through expanded student support and programming.”

The Center for Basic Needs provides comprehensive resources and support to meet students’ essential needs. Programs and services supported by the Center for Basic Needs include the Big Orange Pantry, the Big Orange Meal Share program, UT to West TN transportation program, the Basic Needs Emergency Fund, and Smokey’s Closet.

The Center for Student Advocacy connects with students to address concerns and provide resources to navigate college life. The center works to ensure that student voices are heard and needs are met, both within the university community and beyond. Programs supported by the Center for Student Advocacy include the family experience program, advising the Student Government Association, Rocky Top Roundtable, and Milkshake Mondays with Dean of Students Byron Hughes.
