What to Expect When Referring Someone Else<\/h2>\n

If a student, faculty, or staff member is concerned about a student who may be showing concerning behaviors, they are encouraged to refer that student to the Center for Care and Resilience either by calling 865-974-HELP (4357)<\/a> or completing a referral form.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

During regular business hours (Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.\u20135 p.m.), 974-HELP calls are answered by a member of the Center for Care and Resilience team. After hours and on weekends and holidays, it is answered by a mental health professional who will connect you to appropriate\/immediate resources and provide a referral to the Care and Resilience team.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Step 1: Submit a Referral<\/h3>\n

Provide as much information as possible, including your name, phone number, and connection to the student of concern (i.e. parent, friend, professor).<\/span><\/p>\n

You will be asked to identify the student of concern by providing their name, UT email address, UT student ID number, and other important information.<\/span><\/p>\n

You will be asked to explain your concerns for the student of concern. <\/span>Please feel free to share as much information as you see fit. Every bit of information helps the Care and Resilience team better connect with the student. <\/span>You may be asked additional questions about the student or the situation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If you have received any concerning messages (emails, texts, GroupMe) from the student, you may be asked to share those with the Center for Care and Resilience via email.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Step 2: The Care Team will Connect with the Student<\/h3>\n

Our team will make initial outreach to the student of concern within 24 hours of a phone referral. Online referral submissions will be addressed within 1 business day. <\/span>You are welcome to request notification when initial outreach with the student has been completed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
