Don\u2019t automatically assume something is hazing. Approaching these conversations is situational. It is important to build rapport with the individual.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><strong>\u201cHow have you been recently?\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong><strong>\u201cI\u2019ve noticed ________. Can you tell me about that?\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You haven\u2019t been completing assignments<\/li>\n<li>You\u2019ve missed meetings<\/li>\n<li>Your appearance has changed<\/li>\n<li>You look tired<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"orange-mark\">Trust Your Gut<\/h2>\n<p>Even if someone says they are not being hazed, if you still have concerns, move forward with responding. Remember that hazing occurs even if a person wants to participate.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"orange-mark\">Respond<\/h2>\n<p class=\"p2\">If you believe someone is being hazed, report the behavior in as much detail as possible.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Organization name<\/li>\n<li>When and where the event(s) occurred<\/li>\n<li>Videos, screenshots, or pictures can be uploaded directly in the reporting form<\/li>\n<li>Names of individuals involved (if known)<\/li>\n<li>How you became aware of the information<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Hazing reports can be made anonymously. <\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cm.maxient.com\/reportingform.php?UnivofTennessee\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here to report hazing.<\/a> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Vols speak up! Staying silent puts your fellow Vols at risk. Silence only encourages the behavior to continue. <a href=\"https:\/\/wellness.utk.edu\/active-bystanders\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Check out these tips on how to speak up.<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"orange-mark\">Are You or Someone You Know Being Hazed?<\/h2>\n<p>Hazing can affect people in many different ways including: anger, confusion, betrayal, fear, resentment, embarrassment, humiliation, hopelessness, helplessness, anxiety and\/or depression. <strong>If you or someone you know is experiencing any of these feelings, contact 865-974-HELP or <a href=\"https:\/\/cas.tennessee.edu\/cas\/login?service=https%3A%2F%2Fcm.maxient.com%2Freportingform.php%3FUnivofTennessee%26layout_id%3D127\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">complete the HELP referral form<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Know that you are not alone and there are resources to support you.
