The University of Tennessee is committed to ending hazing. To accomplish this goal, it\u2019s important that we work together to identify hazing, act on it, and prevent it.<\/p>\n

The university is committed to educating students about the dangers of hazing and fostering environments where leadership, teamwork, and friendships are built without harm. Through initiatives like National Hazing Prevention Week, educational workshops, and clear reporting procedures, the university empowers students to recognize, prevent, and stand against hazing. If you or someone you know is experiencing hazing, resources and support are available to help\u2014because every Volunteer deserves to be treated with dignity and respect.<\/p>\n

Identify Hazing<\/h2>\n

\u201cHazing is any activity expected [or perceived as expected] of someone joining or participating in a group that humiliates, degrades, abuses, or endangers them regardless of a person\u2019s willingness to participate.\u201d<\/span> (Allan & Madden, 2008)<\/span><\/a> Identifying what types of activities could be hazing and<\/span> knowing what signs might indicate someone is being hazed<\/span> is the first step in preventing hazing.<\/span><\/p>\n

Act on Hazing<\/h2>\n

If you identify something that might be hazing, it is important to act on it by<\/span> asking questions<\/span>, trusting your gut, and responding to the situation. If you believe someone is being hazed,<\/span> report the behavior in as much detail as possible<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n
