Position Summary<\/h2>\n

The hall director leads the residence life program in a university residence hall, focusing on community and student development. They supervise staff, including resident assistants and assistant hall directors, handling hiring, training, and evaluations. Key responsibilities include student discipline, crisis intervention, program development, and facilities coordination. They also collaborate closely with maintenance and housekeeping teams to address resident concerns promptly and effectively.<\/p>\n

Position Responsibilities<\/h2>\n

Staff Supervision and Development<\/h3>\n

Responsible for hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating resident assistants (RA) and assistant hall directors (AHD). Coordinates and delivers in-hall training sessions each August and January, including presentations and team-building activities. Leads weekly staff meetings and conducts regular one-on-one check-ins with student staff and full-time AHDs. Works closely with housekeeping and maintenance teams to proactively resolve facility concerns.<\/p>\n

Community Development and Well-Being<\/h3>\n

Oversees daily residence hall operations to support community development and student well-being, maintaining strong visibility through office hours and attendance at evening programs. Leads on-call crisis and emergency response to ensure resident safety. Advises the building\u2019s Hall Association and collaborates with student leaders to plan events and programs. Manages semesterly health and safety inspections and coordinates follow-up for required reporting protocols, including CSA\/Clery, student transports, and distressed-student cases. Participates in an overnight and weekend 24-hour on-call rotation covering multiple residence halls.<\/p>\n

Administrative Management<\/h3>\n

Prepares timely weekly departmental reports and maintains proficiency in key software platforms. Manages systems such as Avigilon cameras, ADP payroll, contract releases, enrollment verification, and the Emotional Support Animal process. Facilitates a seven-week RA Symposium course each spring and chairs departmental committees to provide leadership and support organizational goals.<\/p>\n

Student Conduct and Crisis Management<\/h3>\n

Serves as the primary conduct officer for moderate to high-level policy violations, meeting with students to determine responsibility and assign educational sanctions. Manages conduct cases in Maxient, ensuring accurate documentation and timely sanction completion. Promotes safety through regular building walkthroughs and inspections. Develops and oversees a comprehensive building coverage rotation for RAs, AHDs, and the hall director, and participates in area-wide on-call coverage to address crises, behavior concerns, and facility issues outside normal hours.<\/p>\n

Fiscal Management<\/h3>\n

Oversees building budgets for programming, supplies, resources, and staff development, ensuring spending aligns with operational needs. Collaborates with Hall Association to plan and track annual finances. Maintains fiscal accountability by documenting and reconciling all transactions per university policies. Supports staff development through funding for training, recognition, and wellness. Ensures merchandise and incentives follow university brand standards to promote hall traditions.<\/p>\n

Required Knowledge and Skills<\/h2>\n

Strong verbal and nonverbal communication skills; ability to use computers; solid administrative and interpersonal skills; and the ability to supervise staff.<\/p>\n
