Student Organization Annual Renewal

Student organizations are required to re-register each year with the Center for Student Engagement to maintain their active status on campus.

If your organization does not renew with the Center for Student Engagement by that deadline, your organization will be marked inactive. If the organization is inactive, your organization will be unable to reserve rooms on campus or have access to all of the benefits of being a registered student organization.

Visit the Center for Student Engagement website to learn more about student organization registration and download the student organization constitution writing guide.

Each student organization is required to have a UT faculty or staff advisor. Please reach out to potential faculty or staff members in other departments who may be willing to support your organization. Send an email to meet, then ask in the meeting if they would be willing to advise your organization. Meetings can be in-person or virtual. If you need help identifying individuals as advisors during this transition, please reach out to staff in the Office for Campus Culture and Community and the Center for Student Engagement, who can assist you with this.

Once you have completed your renewal application, your advisor will receive an email prompting you to “thumbs up” that application as a method of approval. The Center for Student Engagement will complete the approval process once your advisor has completed this step. Download the Advisor Approval Steps guide.

Funding your organization

Student organizations are eligible to participate in university fundraising campaigns, such as Big Orange Give and Volstarter, to support an organization’s project or initiative. Additionally, student organizations may apply for supplemental funding through the Student Organization Travel Fund to travel off-campus to regional, state, or national organizational events, competitions, training, etc.

Questions about fundraising for your organization can be directed to the Center for Student Engagement at engaged@utk.edu.
