Emergency and After-Hours Care
In a medical emergency, call 911 immediately. For urgent concerns after hours, after-hours care information provides guidance and available care options.
After-Hours Care through UT Medical Center Emergency Department
After-hours care is available for Student Health Center-eligible students through the University of Tennessee Medical Center Emergency Department.

Transportation
Transportation to the emergency department depends on the patient’s condition and may occur by Emergency Medical Services (EMS) or a privately owned vehicle. Transportation is not provided or covered by the Student Health Center. For emergencies, call 911.
Charges
To receive after-hours student agreement pricing, Student Health Center-eligible students should present their UT student ID and personal health insurance card or information.
Insurance is typically accepted at the UT Medical Center. Charges vary by individual coverage. Insurance deductibles and other out-of-pocket costs may be the patient’s responsibility.
Other Emergency Departments Close to Campus
Other emergency departments close to campus include Fort Sander’s Regional Medical Center ER and Dolly Parton Children’s Hospital ER. Students must be under 21 years of age to receive treatment at Dolly Parton Children’s Hospital.

Insurance is typically accepted at local emergency departments and local urgent care clinics. Charges vary by individual coverage. Insurance deductibles and other out-of-pocket costs may be the patient’s responsibility.
Patients who have an after-hours health issue arising to the level of an emergency should always be seen through an emergency room.
Post-visit Care
After discharge, students are encouraged to request that a record of their visit to any after-hours care facility be forwarded to the Student Health Center to be included in their medical record. For assistance arranging follow-up care, contact the Student Health Center at 865-974-5080.

If you are experiencing a health-related emergency, dial 911.
By contacting our Nurse Advice Line, students may speak with a registered nurse regarding their health concerns. This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
