Primary Care

The Primary Care Clinic serves students with ongoing health concerns requiring routine follow-up for monitoring and care.

Schedule an Appointment

Some appointments are available virtually or in person. When scheduling an appointment, please discuss your preference and have your availability ready to discuss alternative dates and times.

When to use the Primary Care Clinic

Students should visit the Primary Care Clinic for concerns that do not appear to be a medical emergency. Primary care problems could include:

  • annual wellness visits
  • routine follow-ups

Students with ongoing or chronic health needs are encouraged to schedule an initial appointment early to establish care with a primary care clinic provider.

If COVID-19 or flu-like symptoms are present

To reduce the risk of spreading infection, if you have an appointment in the Primary Care Clinic and on the day of your appointment are experiencing COVID-19 or flu-like symptoms, please notify the Telephone Triage Nurse before your appointment so that it may be rescheduled if needed.

When urgent and emergency care is needed

Immediate health problems like those listed below are of such a potentially serious nature that immediate evaluation through an emergency room is the safest approach to your care.

  • Chest pain
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Head injury with symptoms
  • Headache with fever and stiff neck or unexplained rash
  • Abdominal pain lasting more than two hours
  • Persistent vomiting
  • Fever greater than 103 F unrelieved with oral hydration and fever-reducing medication
  • Severe pain of any kind

Patients who arrive at the Student Health Center with urgent or emergency medical issues without an appointment will be referred to a local urgent care facility, walk-in clinic or emergency department, depending on the situation.

Transportation, including Emergency Medical Service or privately-owned vehicles, to off-campus health care facilities is not provided or covered by the Student Health Center.

Do Not Delay

Do not delay emergency care by visiting the Student Health Center. If you have a question about where you should receive care, contact the telephone triage nurse line, which is available 24/7 at 865-974-5080

Physical Exams

The Physical Examination Section of the Primary Care Clinic is dedicated to assisting students in completing medical assessments requested for general screening purposes or required as a prerequisite to participation or employment.
