Discrimination and\/or Harassment<\/strong><\/a><\/h3><\/div><div id=\"custom-collapse-5-5\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse panel-collapse collapse\"><div class=\"panel-body\"><br \/>\nDiscrimination: Conduct that discriminates against any person(s) or organization(s) based on a characteristic protected by federal, state, or local law prohibiting discrimination; or conduct that violates the university&#8217;s rules or policies prohibiting discrimination.<\/p>\n<p>Harassment: Unwelcome conduct directed toward a person that is discriminatory on a basis prohibited by federal, state, or local law, and that is so severe, pervasive, and objectively offensive that it effectively bars the victim&#8217;s access to an educational opportunity or benefit.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"panel-group\" id=\"custom-collapse-6\" role=\"tablist\" aria-multiselectable=\"true\"><\/div><div class=\"panel  panel panel-default\"><div class=\"panel-heading\"><h3 class=\"panel-title\"><a class=\"collapsed\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-parent=\"#custom-collapse-6\"\" href=\"#custom-collapse-6-6\"  aria-expanded=\"true\" aria-controls=\"#custom-collapse-6-6\"><svg xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\" class=\"icon-collapse\" viewBox=\"0 0 24 24\"><path d=\"M0 7.33l2.829-2.83 9.175 9.339 9.167-9.339 2.829 2.83-11.996 12.17z\"\/><\/svg>  <strong>7. Invasion of Privacy<\/strong><\/a><\/h3><\/div><div id=\"custom-collapse-7-7\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse panel-collapse collapse\"><div class=\"panel-body\"><br \/>\nInvasion of another person\u2019s privacy when that person has a reasonable expectation of privacy including, without limitation, using electronic or other means to make a video or photographic record of any person in a location in which the person has a reasonable expectation of privacy, without the person\u2019s knowledge or consent. This includes, but is not limited to, making a video or photographic record of a person in shower\/locker rooms or restrooms. Hazing<\/strong><\/a><\/h3><\/div><div id=\"custom-collapse-9-9\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse panel-collapse collapse\"><div class=\"panel-body\"><br \/>\nAny intentional or reckless act, on or off university-controlled property, by one (1) student, acting alone or with others, which is directed against any other student, which endangers the mental or physical health, safety, or welfare of that student, or which induces or coerces a student to endanger their mental or physical health, safety, or welfare. Hazing does not include customary athletic events or similar contests or competitions and is limited to those actions taken and situations created in connection with initiation into or affiliation with any organization regardless of the student&#8217;s willingness to participate.<br \/>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"panel-group\" id=\"custom-collapse-10\" role=\"tablist\" aria-multiselectable=\"true\"><\/div><div class=\"panel  panel panel-default\"><div class=\"panel-heading\"><h3 class=\"panel-title\"><a class=\"collapsed\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-parent=\"#custom-collapse-10\"\" href=\"#custom-collapse-10-10\"  aria-expanded=\"true\" aria-controls=\"#custom-collapse-10-10\"><svg xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\" class=\"icon-collapse\" viewBox=\"0 0 24 24\"><path d=\"M0 7.33l2.829-2.83 9.175 9.339 9.167-9.339 2.829 2.83-11.996 12.17z\"\/><\/svg> <strong>11. Misconduct Related to Fire Safety<\/strong><\/a><\/h3><\/div><div id=\"custom-collapse-13-13\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse panel-collapse collapse\"><div class=\"panel-body\"><br \/>\nAny act of arson; falsely reporting a fire, the presence of an explosive or incendiary device, or other emergency; setting off a false fire alarm; or tampering with, removing, or dam aging fire alarms, fire extinguishers or any other safety or emergency equipment from its proper location except when removed in a situation in which there is a reasonable belief of the need for such equipment.<br \/>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"panel-group\" id=\"custom-collapse-14\" role=\"tablist\" aria-multiselectable=\"true\"><\/div><div class=\"panel  panel panel-default\"><div class=\"panel-heading\"><h3 class=\"panel-title\"><a class=\"collapsed\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-parent=\"#custom-collapse-14\"\" href=\"#custom-collapse-14-14\"  aria-expanded=\"true\" aria-controls=\"#custom-collapse-14-14\"><svg xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\" class=\"icon-collapse\" viewBox=\"0 0 24 24\"><path d=\"M0 7.33l2.829-2.83 9.175 9.339 9.167-9.339 2.829 2.83-11.996 12.17z\"\/><\/svg> <strong>15. Weapons<\/strong><\/a><\/h3><\/div><div id=\"custom-collapse-16-16\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse panel-collapse collapse\"><div class=\"panel-body\"><br \/>\nPossessing, carrying, using, storing, or manufacturing any weapon if prohibited by federal, state, or local law; or possessing, carrying, using, storing, or manufacturing any weapon on University-controlled property or in connection with a University-affiliated activity, unless authorized in writing by the Chief of Police or his\/her designee or unless federal or state law affirmatively gives a student a right, irrespective of the Code, to possess or carry a weapon on University-controlled property or in connection with a University-affiliated activity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><strong>*Pursuant to Public Chapter No. 791, effective July 1, 2024, the University does not prohibit a student from carrying, for the purposes of self-defense, pepper spray, a pepper spray gun, pepper gel, mace, a stun gun, an electronic control device, or other conducted energy device on University-controlled property or in connection with a University-affiliated activity, except in any building where armed security is provided or where such carrying is prohibited by contract.<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"panel-group\" id=\"custom-collapse-17\" role=\"tablist\" aria-multiselectable=\"true\"><\/div><div class=\"panel  panel panel-default\"><div class=\"panel-heading\"><h3 class=\"panel-title\"><a class=\"collapsed\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-parent=\"#custom-collapse-17\"\" href=\"#custom-collapse-17-17\"  aria-expanded=\"true\" aria-controls=\"#custom-collapse-17-17\"><svg xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\" class=\"icon-collapse\" viewBox=\"0 0 24 24\"><path d=\"M0 7.33l2.829-2.83 9.175 9.339 9.167-9.339 2.829 2.83-11.996 12.17z\"\/><\/svg> <strong>18. Failure to Appear at a University Hearing<\/strong><\/a><\/h3><\/div><div id=\"custom-collapse-23-23\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse panel-collapse collapse\"><div class=\"panel-body\"><br \/>\nFailing to appear at a university hearing, including, without limitation, a hearing of a university conduct board, following a request to appear either as a party or as a witness.<br \/>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"panel-group\" id=\"custom-collapse-24\" role=\"tablist\" aria-multiselectable=\"true\"><\/div><div class=\"panel  panel panel-default\"><div class=\"panel-heading\"><h3 class=\"panel-title\"><a class=\"collapsed\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-parent=\"#custom-collapse-24\"\" href=\"#custom-collapse-24-24\"  aria-expanded=\"true\" aria-controls=\"#custom-collapse-24-24\"><svg xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\" class=\"icon-collapse\" viewBox=\"0 0 24 24\"><path d=\"M0 7.33l2.829-2.83 9.175 9.339 9.167-9.339 2.829 2.83-11.996 12.17z\"\/><\/svg> <strong>25. Violation of Interim Administrative Actions, Disciplinary Sanctions, or Condition of Re-Enrollment<\/strong><\/a><\/h3><\/div><div id=\"custom-collapse-24-24\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse panel-collapse collapse\"><div class=\"panel-body\"><br \/>\nViolating the terms of a no-contact directive, an interim restriction, a disciplinary sanction, or a condition of re-enrollment imposed by the university.<br \/>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"panel-group\" id=\"custom-collapse-25\" role=\"tablist\" aria-multiselectable=\"true\"><\/div><div class=\"panel  panel panel-default\"><div class=\"panel-heading\"><h3 class=\"panel-title\"><a class=\"collapsed\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-parent=\"#custom-collapse-25\"\" href=\"#custom-collapse-25-25\"  aria-expanded=\"true\" aria-controls=\"#custom-collapse-25-25\"><svg xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\" class=\"icon-collapse\" viewBox=\"0 0 24 24\"><path d=\"M0 7.33l2.829-2.83 9.175 9.339 9.167-9.339 2.829 2.83-11.996 12.17z\"\/><\/svg> <strong>26. Obstruction or Disruption of University Activity<\/strong><\/a><\/h3><\/div><div id=\"custom-collapse-25-25\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse panel-collapse collapse\"><div class=\"panel-body\"><br \/>\nObstructing or disrupting teaching, learning, studying, research, public service, administration, disciplinary proceedings, emergency services, or any other university-affiliated activity, or the free flow of pedestrian or vehicular traffic on university-controlled property. In no event shall this rule be construed to discipline a student for speech protected by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution.<br \/>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"panel-group\" id=\"custom-collapse-26\" role=\"tablist\" aria-multiselectable=\"true\"><\/div><div class=\"panel  panel panel-default\"><div class=\"panel-heading\"><h3 class=\"panel-title\"><a class=\"collapsed\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-parent=\"#custom-collapse-26\"\" href=\"#custom-collapse-26-26\"  aria-expanded=\"true\" aria-controls=\"#custom-collapse-26-26\"><svg xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\" class=\"icon-collapse\" viewBox=\"0 0 24 24\"><path d=\"M0 7.33l2.829-2.83 9.175 9.339 9.167-9.339 2.829 2.83-11.996 12.17z\"\/><\/svg>  <strong>27. Violation of University Policy or Rule<\/strong><\/a><\/h3><\/div><div id=\"custom-collapse-26-26\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse panel-collapse collapse\"><div class=\"panel-body\"><br \/>\nViolating a university policy or rule including, without limitation, university policies or rules relating to facilities\u2019 use, smoking, the acceptable use of information technology resources, research misconduct, finder\u2019s fees relating to clinical investigations involving human subjects or access to university data or materials, university libraries, dining services, parking or transportation, University identification card use, sexual harassment, residence halls, and registered student organizations.<br \/>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"panel-group\" id=\"custom-collapse-27\" role=\"tablist\" aria-multiselectable=\"true\"><\/div><div class=\"panel  panel panel-default\"><div class=\"panel-heading\"><h3 class=\"panel-title\"><a class=\"collapsed\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-parent=\"#custom-collapse-27\"\" href=\"#custom-collapse-27-27\"  aria-expanded=\"true\" aria-controls=\"#custom-collapse-27-27\"><svg xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\" class=\"icon-collapse\" viewBox=\"0 0 24 24\"><path d=\"M0 7.33l2.829-2.83 9.175 9.339 9.167-9.339 2.829 2.83-11.996 12.17z\"\/><\/svg> <strong>28. Retaliation<\/strong><\/a><\/h3><\/div><div id=\"custom-collapse-29-29\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse panel-collapse collapse\"><div class=\"panel-body\"><br \/>\nEngaging in retaliation. Retaliation is an act or omission committed by a student because of another person\u2019s participation in a protected activity that would discourage a reasonable person from engaging in protected activity. Retaliation violates the Standards of Conduct regardless of whether the underlying allegation of a violation of the Standards of Conduct is ultimately found to have merit. Retaliation can include, without limitation: (1) an act or omission committed against a person\u2019s family, friends, advisors, and\/or other persons reasonably expected to provide information in connection with a university investigation or hearing; and (2) an act or omission committed by a student through a third party.<br \/>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/p>\n<h2>Sanctions<\/h2>\n<p>The purposes of sanctions are to educate, promote personal and professional development, discourage violations, and protect the university community.
