Hispanic Heritage Month Highlight: Lambda Theta Alpha Incorporated

This month our campus is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month! It runs from September 15 – October 15, but we are always celebrating the Latinx community across our campus. There are many different Hispanic groups in our community, and we are excited to highlight a few in this series.

Lambda Theta Alpha Incorporated is the first Latin Sorority and is an educational sorority that embodies diversity and culture. They live by the moto “Latin by tradition not by definition”. Their mission is to show unity, love, and respect amongst sisters and everyone else while becoming leaders in political, social, and cultural activities.

Members of Lambda Theta Alpha pose with a Smokey StatueLitzy Espinosa spoke on her involvement as a member, “I feel very supported and have been able to participate in activities that positively push me outside of my comfort zone. I have been able to socialize, promote, and spread information something that I was never really used to as an introverted person.”

Lambda Theta Alpha hosts key events surrounding Hispanic Heritage month as a part of their cultural goal, to shine light on the successes of various leaders and to share information to other students on campus. Their most recent event was for national hazing prevention which is something they highly emphasize to everyone about their organization.

“I became involved in my organization when I first heard there was a Latin sorority on campus. As a minority it does feel hard to connect with other students sometimes and I wanted to find a place where I could be myself. Lambda Theta Alpha became my home away from home and I found sisters that genuinely cared about me and would be there for me.”

If you are interested in Lambda Theta Alpha, consider joining them for one of their events on campus. Talk with some of the sisters and get to know more about them and their organization. They love getting to know everyone and welcome all to come and say hi!
