Emotional Wellness

Emotional wellness refers to our ability to express and manage our feelings in healthy ways as well as our ability to cope with the stresses of daily life.

Developing Your Emotional Wellness

  1. Become aware of your emotions and develop healthy coping strategies for emotional regulation and self-care.
  2. Allow yourself to effectively communicate your wants, needs, and emotions with others, and set healthy boundaries.
  3. Identify your network of supportive people you can ask for help when you need it.

Emotional Wellness In and Out of the Classroom

Anyone working with students often serve as the first point of contact when students need support resources related to mental health. The Volunteer community should become familiar with the signs and symptoms of mild, moderate, or severe mental health challenges to better connect students to campus resources.

Examples of Emotional Wellness inside and outside of the classroom:

  • Recognize stressful times throughout the semester (i.e., midterms, finals, etc.) and plan accordingly
  • Journaling
  • Going for a walk in nature
  • Playing music that makes you happy
  • Talking with family, friends, faculty, and/or staff that you trust
