Alcohol Edu & Sexual Assault Prevention Courses

The AlcoholEdu and Sexual Assault Prevention for Undergraduates courses are part of UT’s comprehensive approach to health and wellness education and creating a safe campus for students. The program provides students with information to make well-informed decisions and be empowered to prevent substance misuse, sexual assault, and interpersonal violence.

Requirements

The AlcoholEdu and Sexual Assault Prevention for Undergraduates courses are assigned to all incoming undergraduate first-year and transfer students in August and December. Students will receive an email in their UTK inbox with instructions and links to complete both modules.

All undergraduate first-year and transfer students are required by the University of Tennessee, Knoxville to complete both courses before arriving on campus. The course email includes the deadline and the steps to finish the courses.

What is considered a passing score?

AlcoholEdu and SAPU do not require a passing score, but you must complete all modules.

How long can I expect the courses to take?

The SAPU course and the AlcoholEdu course will each take approximately one hour to complete.

Do I have to take the course all at one time?

You may take the course in multiple sittings, but make sure to click on the “next” button after completing a section before logging out. If you do not progress to the next section first, you will have to repeat the previous section.

Accessing the Courses

How do I take the course?

You will need Internet access and audio capabilities.
- To avoid technical issues, please use any major web browser (e.g., Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome) released within the previous two years.
You will access the course by logging into Duo (two-factor authentication) with your UT NetID
- Do not use any other identification besides your UT NetID; we use this to identify you as a student.
- Do not input your social security number anywhere on the registration page for identification.

What if I am a parent or family member and want to take the course?

We’re excited to share the resource website for parents of higher education students. The site includes helpful information and resources on critical topics like substance abuse and sexual assault prevention.

What if I’ve already taken these courses at another institution?

We do not have access to records of completion from institutions outside of UT. Since the course has been customized to include UT-specific policies and resources, all incoming UT students are required to re-take AlcoholEdu and Sexual Assault Prevention.

What if the Sexual Assault Prevention for Undergraduates course is difficult or triggering?

We recognize that the material in the course may be difficult for some individuals as it includes content and examples of sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating and domestic violence, and stalking. I don’t drink. Do I still need to complete AlcoholEdu?

Even if you do not drink, you may still be impacted by alcohol use in the college environment. AlcoholEdu provides personalized paths through the curriculum so that if you don’t drink, you will receive support and specific information tailored to your choices. AlcoholEdu will also provide you with important information regarding coping with potential drinking behavior of your peers.

Will my course survey answers be private?

All surveys are confidential. UT will only receive information about the student body as a whole to inform future programming and never receive answers from an individual student.

Can I access course material in the future?

The course material will remain accessible for you before and after the due date. Once complete, you can return to the course anytime to review the materials shared.

Do I need a textbook or materials for this course?

A textbook and materials are not needed. Everything that you need is provided to you online through the program.

Will I receive college program credit for taking these courses?

You will not receive college program credit for AlcoholEdu or Sexual Assault Prevention for Undergraduates.
