Tickle College of Engineering LLC

The Engage Living & Learning Community (LLC) provides a supportive environment for first-year students who have been admitted to the College of Engineering. Engage is founded on the common coursework taken by first-year engineering students, Engineering Fundamentals, a curriculum that includes project-oriented, hands-on team activities and explorations in physics and computer applications.

Students choosing to live in the Engage community will benefit from living in the same residence hall as other first-year engineering students taking the same courses. This makes it easy to share notes, form study groups, and develop camaraderie. Engage students will participate in EF 102, Introduction to the Tickle College of Engineering, to build essential skills for the successful study of engineering. Engage students will develop strong bonds and personal relationships with their fellow future engineers and begin networking early with professors and upper-division students. Engage LLC students have the opportunity to participate in fun and educational trips, activities, and physics exam review sessions. Engage LLC students interact under the guidance and direction of continuing engineering students living in the community with them, the Engage leadership team, and will be matched with a peer mentor from the Engage leadership team.

Visit the Engineering Fundamentals Program page for additional details.

The Engage LLC will be located in Geier Hall for 2025-2026.
All LLC locations are subject to change.

Engage Leadership Team (ELT)

The Engage Leadership Team (ELT) is the team of upper class engineering students that are committed to providing positive experiences and support for first-year engineering students living in the Engage LLC (engineering dorm). Members of the ELT are current engineering students who understand the challenges of being a first year student in an engineering program.  The ELT is committed to providing Engage LLC students with mentoring, academic support, personal and professional development, and a connected community in their first year of engineering school.

Members of the Engage Leadership Team live in 4 bedroom apartments alongside the first year LLC students in Geier Hall. (All LLC locations are subject to change.)

ELT members:

★ Serve as role models and lead by example both inside and outside the classroom
★ Serve as a connection to first year students in the Engage LLC
★ Are active members of the UT community
★ Encourage and support academic achievement
★ Promote an inclusive environment
★ Provide LLC students personal and professional development opportunities
★ Give back to the UTK and Knoxville community through service and outreach
★ Provide a strong sense of community and support through organized activities

Application Process

ELT applications are available in the fall semester and remain open until all positions are filled.

ELT Scholarship

Participation in an ELT is a volunteer position. However some ELT members will receive a $1,000 scholarship for service during the course of the academic year ($500 if only serving one semester). Not all ELTs will receive a scholarship. After one year of service in the ELT, returning ELT members that commit to a leadership role in the ELT and maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA may be eligible to apply for a $1500 ELT scholarship, subject to the availability of funds.
