Tickle College of Engineering LLC

Engineering students lead busy lives! Success in engineering requires a substantial time commitment and hard work. The Engage Living and Learning Community (Engage LLC) brings first-year engineering students together in a residential environment to help them adjust to campus life as they begin their undergraduate degrees at UT. Upper-level engineering students, who serve as peer mentors, live in the residence hall along with first-year engineering students to help make the first-year transition easier.

Students involved in Engage LLC 2025 paint the rock with the words "Engage".

The Engage LLC provides a supportive environment for first-year students who have been admitted to the Tickle College of Engineering where they can develop a sense of camaraderie with other engineering students. Living together allows students to share notes, work together in study groups, and participate in fun and educational outings.

While subject to change, the Engage LLC is located in Geier Hall for the 2025-2026 academic year.

Engage Peer Mentors

Each first-year student in the Engage LLC is assigned an Engage Peer Mentor that is available to answer questions based on their experiences as a student and help connect students with resources available at the university and in the Tickle College of Engineering. The peer mentors frequently host academic events to help students complete class assignments and prepare for exams. They also host professional and social events to help students improve their professional skills, perform community service, and connect with each other.

If you are interested in becoming an Engage Peer Mentor, please contact us! The application normally opens early in the fall semester. Being an Engage Peer Mentor is a volunteer position, but you can apply for a merit-based scholarship after one year of service.

Housing

First-year engineering students are not required to reside in the Engage LLC, but choosing to live in the Engage LLC gives you access to a peer mentor, organized tutoring and study sessions, and LLC only field trips and outings. Living in the Engage LLC makes it easier to find others in your classes to study with and hang out with, so you can develop strong relationships with other engineering students.

Beyond Academics

Students in the Engage LLC have taken trips to nearby Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Neyland Stadium as well as taken extracurricular trips to participate in laser tag, bowling, and escape rooms. LLCs are supported by a network of faculty and staff who serve the mission of the community.

Community Requirements

Eligible students must be admitted to the Tickle College of Engineering. All Engage LLC students enroll in Engineering Fundamentals courses their first semester.
Engineering students who are in 1794, Chancellor’s Honors, or Honors Leadership programs may choose to apply to live in the Engage or University Honors community.
