Local Fall Break Activities for Students

Students sit outside in the fall.

Spending fall break in Knoxville? There are plenty of local attractions and events to make your long weekend one to remember! From outdoor excursions to fall festivities, there is something for everyone to spend time with friends or appreciate some alone time before entering the second half of the semester on the right foot.

On Saturday October 3, the Vols will take on the Auburn Tigers in Neyland Stadium in what’s sure to be an action packed SEC matchup. The game will kick-off at 3:30 p.m., so make sure to wear lots of orange and bring your Big Orange spirit!

Prior to the game, take the short walk over to Market Square for the Saturday morning farmers market. From fresh produce to locally made artwork, the farmers market is a great way to start off your long weekend.

Fall break is also the perfect time to to visit Dollywood for their annual Harvest Festival. Filled with autumnal displays and unique performances, all UT students, faculty, and staff canĀ purchase Dollywood tickets at a discounted rate, courtesy of the Division of Student Life.

For nature lovers, there are several nearby parks and trails to take a hike or simply enjoy spending time outdoors. Ijams Nature Center and Meads Quarry are both located nearby, offering particularly beautiful views as the fall foliage begins to spread across the region. For those looking to stay on campus, UT Gardens offers beautiful views for a walk nearby.

The break from classes can also be a great time to check out areas of campus you may not normally visit, such as the McClung Museum. With free entry, all guests can explore the natural history and culture exhibits currently on display.

Whether you stay on campus, walk downtown to explore more of Knoxville, or venture towards the Smokies for thrilling rides at Dollywood, staying on Rocky Top over fall break is the perfect time to make new memories at your home sweet home.
