Student Life departments provide the daily services students need to thrive at UT. We foster student engagement and leadership opportunities, prioritize health and wellness, and enhance a sense of belonging through inclusive excellence initiatives. Our departments provide students with transformational experiences that are critical to realizing their aspirations.
Assessment and Strategic Initiatives
The Office of Assessment and Strategic Initiatives (OASI) facilitates assessment, evaluation, planning, and other research activities that contribute to the culture of evidence within the Division of Student Life. Through training and skill development related to program review, assessment, evaluation, planning, and research, OASI helps departments embed these areas in day-to-day operations to continuously improve and enhance learning for all students.
Center for Care and Resilience
The Center for Care & Resilience works collaboratively with students and the university to support individuals who are experiencing distress in their lives. The Center for Care & Resilience gathers information and assesses the contributing factors and meets with students to create and implement a plan that supports self-advocacy, growth, and a return to a level of functioning most likely to promote success.
Center for Health Education and Wellness
The Center for Health Education and Wellness (CHEW) empowers Volunteers to thrive by cultivating personal and community well-being. CHEW helps the UT community prioritize holistic wellness.
Center for Student Engagement
The Center for Student Engagement creates inclusive and innovative opportunities for students to build connections and create community through meaningful involvement, personal development, and co-curricular learning to enhance their Volunteer experience.
Student Life Communications (SLC) supports the departments within the Division of Student Life by providing creative solutions to maximize the initiatives that serve our students and the UT community. SLC upholds the university’s brand guidelines to strengthen the identity and reputation of the Division of Student Life, illuminating the unique story of the Volunteer experience.
Dean of Students
The Office of the Dean of Students cultivates an inclusive learning community for Volunteers. Leadership and service, mattering and belonging, and compassionate care are essential themes of the student experience.
Finance and Administration
The Office of Student Life Finance & Administration provides essential financial and administrative services to support the Division of Student Life’s mission, and assist departments with the resources to foster the student experience.
Jones Center for Leadership and Service
The Jones Center for Leadership and Service educates and engages students to lead and serve the global community. Every Volunteer has the ability and responsibility to engage in leadership as a process, advocate for social justice, and better the world.
Multicultural Student Life
Multicultural Student Life (MSL) is dedicated to promoting a welcoming and inclusive campus environment while advocating for historically marginalized students by providing academic support, multicultural education, identity exploration, leadership development, and diverse and innovative programming through collaborative partnerships. MSL assists in the retention and graduation of students who are empowered to positively impact a global society.
The Pride Center provides academic and social support for the LGBTQ+ community at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. The Pride Center is a space for all Vols to engage with and explore issues relating to gender and sexuality.
RecSports provides recreational experiences that enhance the growth and wellbeing of students and community through programs, facilities, services, and employment.
Sorority and Fraternity Life
The Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life supports the co-curricular student experience by assisting sororities and fraternities in developing individuals of reputable character who exemplify sisterhood/brotherhood, leadership, and service for the greater good.
Student Conduct and Community Standards
Student Conduct & Community Standards develops student integrity and accountability through an educational, consistent, and equitable conduct process.
Student Counseling Center
The Student Counseling Center offers a variety of workshops, support groups, and mental health resources to help manage the typical stressors of college life. Individual, couple, and group counseling, crisis intervention, and psychiatry services are also available.
Student Disability Services
Student Disability Services (SDS) partners with the UT community to ensure an accessible university experience for students with disabilities by removing or minimizing barriers. SDS engages in disability education, advances the concepts of universal design, and promotes disability as a component of diversity to increase inclusion on campus.
Student Health Center
The Student Health Center provides a variety of services to stay healthy, including but not limited to acute care, allergy/immunization clinic, COVID-19 test clinic, women’s health clinic, sports medicine and physical therapy, and telemedicine.
The Student Union provides a home away from home, a place to find community at UT. It is where friends meet, grab a bite to eat, engage with student organizations, and attend events. It is the hub of campus, an educational space, and a place to gather.
Student Life Technology Services works in close partnership with the Office of Information Technology to provide hardware, software, and support to Student Life departments and staff.
University Housing fosters positive, student-centered residential communities supporting the academic mission of the university. University Housing provides a defining experience for students through programs and amenities that facilitate individual learning and development.
