Center for Career Development and Academic Exploration

The center provides career-related programs, resources, and services to students and alumni. It helps students choose majors, find jobs and internships, and navigate graduate school admissions. Additionally, the center supports students in gaining career readiness and successfully preparing for their post-graduation goals. University Exploratory students receive academic advising from coaches in the career center. 

Division of Global Engagement

The Division of Global Engagement (DGE) serves as the central global hub for UT, providing resources and support for education abroad opportunities, international and intercultural programming, global research, international student and scholar services, English language study, developing and managing international partnerships, and much more. 

DGE is organized into six major units: 

• English Language Institute 
• Global Research, Innovation, and Partnership 
• Global Security, Risk, and Resilience 
• International House 
• International Student and Scholar Services 
• Programs Abroad 

With approximately 1,200 international students from over 100 different countries, 500 international scholars, and more than 2,000 UT students studying abroad every year, DGE keeps UT connected around the world.

Division of Student Life

The Division of Student Life is charged with improving campus life at UT. Its various departments encompass many different aspects of university life but all work toward one goal—providing students with an engaging and supportive atmosphere of living and learning. The mission of Student Life is to develop student-centered opportunities that contribute to a transformative Volunteer experience. These experiences create a climate in which learning, belonging, engagement, and care can thrive. 

The Vice Chancellor for Student Life oversees the departments in the Division of Student Life. These units offer programs and services that assist and support students in their life outside the classroom: Center for Health Education and Wellness, Jones Center for Leadership and Service, Center for Student Engagement, Office for Campus Culture and Community, Office of the Dean of Students, Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life, RecSports, Student Conduct & Community Standards, Student Counseling Center, Student Disability Services, Student Health Center, Center for Care and Resilience, Student Union, and University Housing.

Office of the Dean of Students

The Office of the Dean of Students assists students through advocacy, support, and mattering and belonging. Programs and services help students successfully navigate through the UT campus community.

Student Disability Services

Student Disability Services (SDS) is the designated office responsible for ensuring equitable access to academic programs and campus life for eligible students at UT. SDS engages in an interactive process with students with disabilities to develop accommodation plans and partners with the UT community to provide disability education, advance the concepts of universal design, and promote disability as a component of diversity. Office of Equal Opportunity and Accessibility

Office of Investigations & Resolution

The Office of Investigation & Resolution (OIR) serves UT by receiving and resolving allegations of UT policy violations in an impartial manner to facilitate compliance with applicable laws and UT policies as well as promote equal opportunity and nondiscrimination within UT’s workplace and educational programs and activities. Students can report allegations of noncompliance with campus fair employment, nondiscrimination, and anti-harassment policies, or fulfill their Mandatory Reporter obligations (concerning antisemitism) under campus policy and state law, by visiting Report to OIR. Office of Innovative Technologies

The Office of Innovative Technologies (OIT) supports students with campus technology, including NetID and 2FA accounts, email, OIT-supported software and apps, online course and learning tools, computer labs, network/Wi‑Fi services, and information security. Office of Student Conduct & Community Standards

Student Conduct & Community Standards (SCCS) develops student integrity and accountability through an educational, consistent, and equitable conduct process. SCCS oversees behavioral misconduct, academic misconduct, student organization misconduct, and Title IX policy violations. Students who engage in conduct that is inconsistent with the code are subject to UT disciplinary action. 

The process by which UT investigates and resolves alleged violations of the Standards of Conduct is called the student conduct process. 

The student conduct process is educational in nature and centered around student development. Although SCCS can issue disciplinary outcomes, most allegations of misconduct are resolved through an educational and developmental approach. The process is designed to promote learning and development as it relates to appropriate decision making. For more information, please visit SCCS’s website.

Academic Success Center and Vol Study Center

The Academic Success Center provides undergraduate students with academic support services such as academic coaching, success workshops, Supplemental Instruction (SI), and study sessions. Academic coaches provide personalized coaching to help students maximize their strengths to develop effective academic skills including time management, study habits, and goal setting. The center als  assists students facing academic probation, dismissal, and readmission. 

The Vol Study Center coordinates course specific peer-led support through study sessions, SI, and group study spaces. Additional free resources such as printing, snacks, and refreshments are available to all students.

University Libraries

The library is everywhere you are. Research assistance is available by online chat, walk-in, email, phone, text, and by appointment with a librarian who specializes in your discipline. UT Libraries provides access to over 3.7 million titles, including print and electronic books, journals, and media. Whether you are at the library or not even on campus, we are available to answer questions and help you find the resources you need. The John C. Hodges Library in the heart of campus houses the majority of the UT Libraries’ collections and many services. In the Commons, on the second floor of Hodges Library, students can get help with research, writing, and academic support, as well as access to technology. Students may check out equipment such as laptops and cameras; use group study rooms; attend online classes; create videos or multimedia projects in The Studio; experiment with gaming and virtual reality; make crafts and try out 3D printing in the Medbery Makerspace; use a practice presentation room; or visit the coffee shop and convenience store. Two branch libraries offer specialized collections, spaces, and services: the Webster C. Pendergrass Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine Library on the agriculture campus and the George F. DeVine Music Library in the Natalie L. Haslam Music Center. Other unique holdings available to students include Special Collections (manuscripts and rare books) in Hodges Library and online digitized collections of some of the library’s one-of-a-kind holdings at digital.lib.utk.edu.
