Serving the Knoxville community and the state of Tennessee is one of the key missions of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. The Division of Student Life is proud to participate in that mission through events like Tower of Cans, a Homecoming competition that started in 2010 where student organizations compete to see which group can stack the tallest tower of canned food items.

Items used in the competition are donated to local food pantries, like the Big Orange Pantry right on campus. This year’s competition totaled 43,599 pounds of food collected, creating roughly 25,000 meals for families in the greater Knoxville area. It takes a Volunteer to lead the way in serving our communities, and we are proud of this event’s legacy of supporting those in need over the past two decades.
