The Student Health Center (SHC) works to meet your health care needs on campus. There are a few ways to book an appointment at the Student Health Center, and we included a how-to guide below to help you set up your first appointment!
The SHC provides nonemergent, outpatient medical care by appointment only for all currently enrolled, eligible students who have paid the health fee portion of the student programs and services fee.
SHC clinics are divided into primary clinical service areas and specialty service areas, including Telemedicine. You may see a full listing of the clinics, services, and important patient health and scheduling information on the SHC website.
A facial covering must be worn anytime you are entering/visiting the Student Health Services Building, including the Student Health Center, Student Counseling Center, and/or Center for Health Education and Wellness.
Booking an Appointment
To schedule a same-day or future appointment, you must contact a Student Heath Center Triage Nurse at 865-974-5080.
Registered nurses serve as the center’s Triage Nurses and provide direct contact for patients seeking medical advice, same-day appointments, or future appointments. Appointments are available for scheduling between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday.
Each day there are a limited number of same-day appointments available. Same-day appointments may only be scheduled by speaking with a Triage Nurse. Approximately sixty percent of all daily appointments are available for same-day scheduling with the remainder of daily appointments available for scheduling on an alternate future date.
We encourage you to call the Triage Nurse line early to secure a same-day appointment. When no further appointments are available for same-day scheduling, the center’s staff will assist you in securing an appointment for a future date or direct them to other local healthcare resources if needed. Triage Nurses may also book online Telemedicine appointments when clinically appropriate.
COVID-19 Test Clinic
Online scheduling through the Portal is currently available only for asymptomatic COVID testing. To avoid spreading infection, symptomatic students cannot be tested in the area reserved for students without symptoms and must speak with a telephone triage nurse to schedule an appointment. Appointments in the COVID-19 Test Clinic are limited to students that are not having active symptoms of infection with the COVID-19 virus. Those with symptoms of COVID-19 should seek care with a healthcare provider.
The COVID-19 Test Clinic is staffed by nurses of the Student Health Center who are permitted to order COVID-19 tests for students that are not having symptoms of COVID-19. Students without symptoms of COVID-19 infection who need to be tested due to recent exposure, recent travel, or having been identified as a member of a positive campus surveillance group, may schedule an appointment in the COVID-19 Test Clinic. Please bring your health insurance information (card) with you to your appointment.
