Dining Hacks for Students

Whether you have a meal plan or not, there are tons of different places to eat on-campus. There are also some hidden “hacks” to the dining world at UT that you might not know about!

There are options across campus to fit everyone’s dietary preferences including multiple large dining halls as well as some retail locations. If you receive dining dollars or flex dollars, you’re able to use these dollars anywhere on campus by simply swiping your VolCard.

One of UT’s newest additions to on-campus dining is that we are now proudly hosting a variety of food trucks that accept dining and flex dollars, as well as VolCard dollars, cash, and credit and debit cards. Partnering food trucks include Bunnz, Wings on the Pig, Bayou Bites, Blenz, and many more! The food truck schedule is updated weekly, and you can find locations, hours, and menus here, or @VolDining on Instagram.

There are also places that are technically off-campus where you can still use your meal plan. The Panda Express and Raising Cane’s locations on the Strip, next to Clement Hall, take both flex and dining dollars.

Do you think you need to talk to a professional about your nutrition needs? Vol Dining has you covered! You have access to talk to a member of the nutrition team, as well as learn more about the members of the dining services team. You can also discover on-campus resources, plant-forward menu items, and ideas from the chefs and dietitians on campus.

You can also add your own money to your VolCard to use at off-campus locations, such as Chipotle, Brenz Pizza, Firehouse Subs, Jimmy John’s on the Strip, and even a few places downtown Knoxville and near campus. A list of VolCard locations can be found here.

The Big Orange Pantry is still up and running with school back in session. Any student is welcome to apply/register to be a client to receive food assistance by filling out an application online. The pantry orders are filled within 24 hours of application submission, and students can find out more on the Big Orange Pantry website.
