Student Life recently welcomed new leadership for our sorority and fraternity community. John W. Keith has been named director of the Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life in the spring 2021 semester. Joining UT from the University of Cincinnati, the Atlanta native not only brings a strong background but a deep passion for the field.
“I didn’t know that I wanted to work in sorority and fraternity life in college,” said John. “I actually started out as an admissions recruiter when a friend of mine mentioned a coordinator job at Augusta University for Greek Life and Leadership.”
As a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., John brings a deep understanding of what it means to be a member of a sorority and fraternity community. “There is such value in sorority and fraternity life, and I think it’s important that the rest of the university community sees that value.”
The job at Augusta University launched John into his career in Fraternity & Sorority Life that led him to UT. Following Augusta University, John became assistant director of Student Life for Fraternity & Sorority Life at Valdosta State University, then moved on to be the assistant director of Greek Life at Louisiana State University.
Since starting in January, John has already hit the ground running, explaining that he wants to make a positive change for not only the students in sororities and fraternities but for the greater UT community. “One of my main goals for sorority and fraternity life here at UT is to transition it from a good system into a great community,” said John. “I want to share the good things that our students are doing with everyone at UT and beyond, and become the model Sorority & Fraternity community.”
With over 22% of the undergraduate population involved in sorority and fraternity life here at UT, the role John and his team plays is vital to building a strong community. Sororities and fraternities offer life-long connections, friendships, and leadership opportunities to students that can help prepare them for life after college.
