Midterms are just around the corner. The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, has a wide range of study spaces, preparation opportunities, and post-exam remedies.
Here are some tips to help you feel better prepared and ready to ace your midterm exams.
Study Tips
When it comes to studying, having notes and a quiet study space to focus is a great place to start. Everyone’s approach is different and sometimes it takes time to figure out what works best for you. If you’re looking for guidance, check out this Vol Success Tip on maintaining good study habits.
There are event-based opportunities to build good study skills as well. September 19–25 is Vol Success Week and will feature multiple opportunities for students to engage with academic programming and get help with key success strategies. Featured events include:
- Vol Success Build Your Own Study Kit
- Best Practices for Presentations
- Ace Your Classes and Have Fun, Too!
- Midterm Study Day
For more specific help on note taking, there will be a note taking workshop from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 21, in Hodges Library Room 128 to help students become better note takers and study successfully.
The Vol Study Center is another great place to start, offering one-on-one, group, and exam prep study sessions for nearly 300 subjects, in addition to learning consultation and studying assistance by appointment.
Study Spaces
Along with note taking tips and study sessions, UT also has a variety of study spots for students to take advantage of.
If you’re looking for some fresh air, some of the campus’s best outdoor spaces can be found at HSS Plaza, tables near Strong Hall and the pedestrian bridge, Ayres Hall lawn, and the College of Communication and Information’s outdoor patio. Search the campus map for other locations.
If you are looking for a less distracting study space, there are several indoor options that you can reserve. Hodges Library has private and group study rooms available to reserve. There are tutorial rooms in Frieson Black Cultural Center, study rooms through the Vol Study Center, and common spaces throughout the second and third floors of the Student Union.
Post-Midterm Remedies
After days of prep and studying and multiple exams, set aside time to unwind and reward yourself for your hard work. UT has just what you need for your post-midterm remedies.
These events will give you tips and tricks on how to restore yourself from hectic college days.
Wellness Workshop: Adjusting to College, 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 29
Wellness Wednesdays: Restoration Space: Cultivating Sacred in the Midst of Busy, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday, October 6
In addition to these events, create your own downtime to refresh yourself from midterms. If things get overwhelming, the Student Counseling Center offers a Wellness Workshop Series on topics like stress management, relaxation, and healthy habits. Self-care during peak exam moments is still a great thing to prioritize.
