Supporting Your Well-Being at UT: Resources Through Student Life

College is about more than just academics—it’s about growing as a person, finding your community, and thriving in every aspect of life. Student Life is here to support you with resources that align with the 8 Dimensions of Wellness: physical, environmental, financial, intellectual, spiritual, occupational, emotional, and social.

Here’s a snapshot of what’s available to help you take care of yourself and make the most of your time at UT.

Physical Wellness

  • RecSports offers a wide range of fitness opportunities, including gyms, group fitness classes, intramural sports, and outdoor adventure trips.
  • The Student Health Center provides comprehensive medical services—from primary care to women’s health and immunizations—right on campus.
  • BetterYou, a well-being app, helps you build healthy habits by setting personalized goals around sleep, movement, mindfulness, and social connection.

Financial Wellness

  • The Big Orange Pantry provides free groceries to any student experiencing food insecurity.
  • Vols Swipe Out Hunger offers meal swipes to students who need temporary dining assistance.
  • Smokey’s Closet provides free professional clothing for job interviews, internships, and class presentations.
  • UT to West Tennessee helps students travel home at a reduced cost for school breaks if they live in West Tennessee.

Intellectual Wellness

  • Student Disability Services supports access to accommodations and services that enhance the academic success of students with disabilities.
  • CliftonStrengths helps students identify their top strengths and learn how to apply them to academics, leadership, and career development.
  • Student Government Association (SGA) provides leadership opportunities where students advocate for their peers and help shape the campus experience.

Environmental Wellness

  • University Housing offers a variety of on-campus living options designed to create safe, supportive, and engaging communities for students.
  • Off-Campus Student Living helps connect students to off campus housing options. From looking and leasing to living day-to-day, staff support and educate students through each step.

Spiritual Wellness

  • Vol Retreat is a calming space on campus designed for reflection, rest, and recharging.
  • Service opportunities through the Jones Center for Leadership and Service help students engage with the community through volunteering, alternative breaks, and service-learning.

Occupational Wellness

  • Lunch Hours with faculty and staff offer students the chance to connect informally with professionals on campus to explore careers, gain advice, and build networks.

Emotional Wellness

  • The Center for Care and Resilience offers support for students navigating difficult life circumstances, along with tools to build coping skills and resilience.
  • The Student Counseling Center provides free mental health services including therapy, crisis response, and workshops.
  • HeartMath, available through the Center for Care and Resilience, is a biofeedback tool that helps students regulate stress and improve focus.
  • Rocky Top Recovery supports students in recovery from substance use and process disorders with community, resources, and peer support.

Social Wellness

  • Volink helps students find and join over 500 student organizations to connect with their fellow students and passions.
  • Campus events are happening all the time—from festivals and concerts to workshops and cultural celebrations. You can find what’s happening through the Vol Connect app.
  • The Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life offers opportunities for leadership, service, and lifelong friendships through UT’s many fraternities and sororities.
