Professional Interests

As a Counseling Psychology PhD student, I hold a variety of roles on campus. These roles include being a student, instructor, and practicum student counselor at the Student Counseling Center. My research currently centers on the experiences of BIPOC and or LGBTQ+ individuals. I am interested in understanding these marginalized groups’ lived experiences  how they experience oppression and joy. I am also interested in understanding how Asian Americans develop critical consciousness of anti-Blackness. In line with my research, I am interested in helping my clients understand how their experiences are impacted by systems of power and oppression.

Theoretical Orientation

In my approach to therapy, I try to center the client’s needs in our therapeutic relationship.  With my clients, I think it is important to form an authentic and trusting relationship that allows us to explore client’s lived experiences and meet client’s goals for therapy. As a practicum student counselor, I am exploring client-centered therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy, and feminist multicultural therapy and I hope to integrate aspects of these theories as it is appropriate for client’s needs.

 Personal Interests

Outside of school and work, I enjoy thrifting, knitting, and reading. While those activities are mostly done alone, I also love spending time with friends and family. I love sharing a nice meal with people I love! With that being said, I enjoy cooking recipes from my own and others’ cultures to share 🙂
