Overview
From whitewater rafting, kayaking, and paddleboarding to hiking, backpacking, and rock climbing, we create custom outdoor experiences tailored to your office, student organization, or athletic team.
Our highly trained student trip leaders prioritize safety, fun, and facilitating a meaningful experience for your group. We can handle the planning and guiding, or support your self-led trip with gear rental packages and local knowledge.

Equipment Rentals and Custom Trip Planning
Need equipment for your own adventure? We can reserve high-quality outdoor gear for your group. Our staff will help you choose the right equipment and ensure you’re fully prepared.
If you would like assistance with planning a group outing that you’d like to lead yourself, we’re your folks. Send us an email ([email protected]) or visit us in the Outdoor Center located in the lower level of the Tennessee Recreation Center for Students (TRECS). We have a variety of maps and guidebooks as well as local knowledge to help you plan a great adventure.
Recreational Trips
Relaxed, low-structure adventures focused on fun and group bonding. Ideal for first-timers or teams that simply want to enjoy time together — think whitewater rafting, scenic hikes, or stargazing. These outings mirror many of our popular year-round adventure trip offerings.
Technical Trips
Skill-based adventures that combine the fun of recreational trips with deliberate instruction and practice. These trips emphasize learning and refining specific outdoor skills such as whitewater kayaking, rock climbing, or mountain biking.
Expect engaging clinics, targeted drills, and constructive feedback from our staff, along with performance evaluations to help participants progress. Ideal for groups ready to move beyond “trying it once” and into real competency.
Pricing for Custom Adventure Trips
Due to the customizable nature of the programs, pricing varies depending on the size of the group, transportation, food, camping, equipment, and staffing. Prices will roughly align with similar offerings within the adventure trips program. Contact us for a quote.

As a resident assistant for UT, it can be difficult to plan team building events that residence hall students want to attend. Partnering with my Living and Learning Community, UTOP was able to provide a unique experience that allowed my residents to work together as a team through challenging rapids and technical obstacles; throughout the day and upon completion, I was able to see my residents come closer together than ever before!
