Membership Types

Enrolled Student

  • UT students automatically receive access to RecSports facilities and programs during the semesters in which they are enrolled and have paid the Student Programs & Services Fee (SPSF). 
  • UT Online students may purchase a $27 per month membership (not to exceed current semester). Purchase your membership

Faculty & Staff

  • Payroll Deduction: Regular full-time faculty and staff at UT Knoxville are eligible for monthly payroll deduction for a RecSports membership. To request, please access the RecSports membership form
  • Two-Week Trial: All faculty and staff members may register for a free two-week trial membership once per year. This membership is for 14 consecutive days. Stop by the Membership & Outreach office on the main floor of the Tennessee Recreation Center for Students (TRECS) during normal business hours to activate the trial. 

Faculty/Staff Rates

  • Faculty and staff member rates are $27 per month or $324 per year.

Retiree

  • Online Payment-in-Full: All retirees with valid UT Knoxville Retiree ID card may purchase a RecSports membership in-person at our Membership & Outreach office on the main floor of the Tennessee Recreation Center for Students (TRECS) during normal business hours. For renewing a retiree membership, sign into your MyRecSports account

Retiree Rates 

  • Retiree with valid UT Knoxville Retiree ID Card$150 per 6 months or $300 per year. 

Plus One

All memberships are nontransferable. 

The Plus One option enables students and faculty and staff to sponsor one other individual over the age of 18 living in the same household as a “Plus One” member. 

Plus One Rates 

  • Student Plus One : $110 per semester (additional) 
  • Faculty and Staff Plus One: $27 per month or $324 per year (additional) 
  • Retiree Plus One$150 per 6 months or $300 per year (additional)

Plus One Rules 

General Disclaimer: RecSports and the Division of Student Life reserve the right to limit Plus One memberships if the demand affects the use of the RecSports facilities for current students. 

  1. Proof of UT Knoxville affiliation must be presented to purchase membership for all options. 
  2. UT employees must be a RecSports member to sponsor a Plus One member. 
  3. The student, faculty or staff member sponsoring the Plus One must be present at the time of purchase. 
  4. Plus One memberships must be purchased in person. Memberships can be purchased at the Membership & Outreach office on the main floor of the Tennessee Recreation Center for Students (TRECS) during normal business hours. This office is closed during university holidays. 
  5.  Photo ID, proof of age, and verification of common residence of the Plus One member will be required as part of the RecSports membership application process. 
  6. Proof of common residence is required of both the sponsoring member and Plus One member. Accepted forms of proof are: 
    • Driver’s license 
    • Lease agreement 
    • Marriage certificate 
    • Car registration 
    • Pay stub dated within the last 30 days 

General DisclaimerRecSports has the right to review additional forms or documents to verify proof of residence. 

  1. Issues concerning validity of a Plus One member for membership will be turned over to the UT director of human resources and the Department of Human Resources for verification of an employee; or Student Conduct and Community Standards for verification of a student. 
  2. Plus One memberships are valid as long as the sponsor is affiliated with UT Knoxville. When the sponsor is no longer affiliated with UT Knoxville (no longer employed or enrolled) the Plus One membership is terminated. 
  3. Aadditional $8 fee will be charged for a Plus One ID card for new members without a UT Knoxville ID. 
  4. UT Plus One photo ID cards will be processed at the VolCard office after you have paid for your RecSports membership. 
  5. If your RecSports card is lost or stolen, the cost of a replacement card is $30 at the VolCard office. 
  6. Payment options are check, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, Apple Pay and Google Pay, or payroll deduction (for UT Knoxville employees only)
  7. The payroll deduction option is only available to regular faculty and staff that are paid through the university’s payroll office. Faculty, staff , and their plus one may elect to have their membership fees deducted monthly through the payroll office from UT employee’s payroll account. RecSports accepts check, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. Members choosing one of these methods of payment will be required to pay for a monthly or yearly membership in advance at the current membership rate. All Plus One memberships are linked to the RecSports membership account for the sponsoring UT employee or student. 
  8. Cancellation Information: To cancel payroll deduction membership, you must fill out the RecSports membership form. 
  9. Plus One members are not eligible to participate in Intramural Sports or Sport Clubs.

Dependent

All memberships are nontransferable. 

The dependent option enables students and faculty/staff to sponsor up to two individuals under the age of 23 living in the same household as dependent(s) members. 

Dependent Rates

  • Student first and second Dependent (Ages 0–23 years): $70 each per semester (additional)
    • Note: Areas of use in facilities are restricted for ages 0–16 yrs 
  • Faculty and staff first dependent (ages 0–23 yrs): $25 per month or $300 per year (additional)
  • Faculty and staff second dependent (Ages 0–23 yrs): $15 per month or $180 per year (additional)
  • Retiree first and second dependent(s) (age 0–23): $90 each per 6 months or $180 each per year (additional)

Dependent Rules

  • Dependent(s) must live in the same household and be under the age of 23.  
  • Parents or guardians must accompany and have direct supervision of all dependents under 18 years of age. 
  • Parents or guardians are expected to be familiar with the age restrictions posted in each activity area. 
  • Dependents age 16 and under are not permitted in group exercise classes or in the fitness areas at any time. 
  • RecSports staff may ask for a valid birth certificate to verify each dependent. 
  • Note: Areas of use in facilities are restricted for ages 0-16 years.

Guests

  • Guest Policy: Guests are permitted to use the facilities while in the company of a valid university participant if they purchase a guest pass. A guest pass can be purchased at the TRECS welcome desk and SAC information desk and is valid for one-day use at all recreation facilities. Participants are responsible for the conduct of their guest and must stay with their guest at all times. If a sponsor leaves a facility, the guest must also exit. 
  • Guest accompanying RecSports Member: $15 per day 

Membership is a privilege, which may be modified or revoked at any time by RecSports or the university. 

Buddy Bundle (Student or Alumni)

This membership type comes with the following: 

  • 1 Summer Membership good for either the summer full semester (May 18 – Aug. 13) or a summer half semester (1st Half: May 18 – June 30, 2nd Half: July 1 – Aug 13 
  • 1 perpetual daily “Guest Pass”. 
  • The member has the option of bringing 1 guest with them per day. 
  • Members will need to register their guest upon arriving at the TRECS welcome desk. 
  • Guests are not permitted to use RecSports facilities, programs, or services without their sponsoring member present. 
  • Members with the Buddy Bundle Membership are limited to 1 guest per day. 
  • Members with the Buddy Bundle Membership are permitted to bring an unlimited number of unique guests throughout the duration of their summer membership.

Frequently Asked Questions

As a student, how do I go about securing a membership? 

During the fall and spring semesters, enrolled students obtain a RecSports membership 
through the Student Services and Programs Fee (SPSF) included with tuition. 

As a current full-time faculty or staff member, how can I sign up for a payroll deduction membership?

There are two ways to sign-up for a full-time faculty and staff payroll deduction membership.  

  • Stop by the RecSports administrative office and sign-up in-person with immediate activation.  

As a faculty or staff member, can I purchase a RecSports Membership online?

Yes, you can purchase your membership through the MyRecSports login portal located on the RecSports website home page.

Can I purchase a Plus One and/or Dependent Membership online? 

Plus One and dependent memberships can only be purchased in person at 
the Membership & Outreach office.

For faculty and staff, it is encouraged for Plus One and/or dependent(s) to be 
present when purchasing their memberships. This will help with getting their 
ID from the VolCard office while on campus.  

For students, Plus One and dependent(s) are required to be present at the RecSports administrative desk when setting up the membership. In addition, the active student must show that their Plus One and/or dependent(s) live within the same household.
