Laboratory Services
The Student Health Center (SHC) Laboratory is a moderate complexity physician office lab (POL). As a POL, the SHC may only collect and perform tests ordered by an SHC provider for established patients.
Lab Orders
Lab orders must come from an SHC provider. By state code, orders for lab tests from a provider external to the SHC cannot be accepted by the SHC laboratory. However, there are local or regional laboratory draw centers close to campus where those orders may be taken and can be honored.
Most labs ordered by our providers may be completed on-site. However, if a lab test ordered by a SHC provider cannot be completed on-site, test samples can be obtained from patients and forwarded on their behalf to an off-site lab facility to complete testing.
Lab Fees
There is a nominal fee assessed for all laboratory services. Certain exams and evaluations have more commonly performed labs.
Your tests and charges will be individualized for you during your evaluation. Your provider will discuss them with you prior to ordering. Private health insurance is not billed by the SHC; however, an itemized statement can be provided to you and used to request reimbursement from your private health insurance carrier.
Of the most commonly ordered lab tests routinely performed at the Student Health Center, most incur a fee of less than $33 with some costing as little as $5.
All lab prices are subject to change without notice, but providers will discuss necessary lab tests and their costs with patients prior to ordering. Additional laboratory tests are available at the Student Health Center and some tests may have an automatic re-test or pathologist fee depending on the result.
Lab Results
Patients will be notified of their lab results by the ordering SHC healthcare provider by phone or through a Secure Message through the Patient Portal.
